According to FierceWireless.com: "TracFone netted a whopping 1.1 million new subscribers in the fourth quarter of 2010, finishing the period with a total of 17.7 million subscribers.TracFone's net adds put it in the same league as some of the nation's Tier 1 wireless carriers. For example, Verizon Wireless, the nation's largest wireless carrier, recorded 955,000 total net customer additions in the fourth quarter, ending the period with 102.2 million 'total wireless connections.'"

I think what makes Tracfone such a winner, is the fact that they have 3 companies under one umbrella, so to speak. Between these 3 companies, there is enough variety offered in terms of phones, pricing options and networks, that customers from all walks of life are catered for. Tracfone for your low-usage, Net10 for in-between as well as flexibility, and Straight Talk for it's most affordable unlimited plan. Not only is there variety, but they also have incredible coverage off some of the top carriers. The one thing they could look at improving on, is the cdma phone choice, though I'm not sure if that's up to them, or regulations elsewhere preventing them from having a cdma smart phone or 2.
What I like about Tracfone is that it is prepaid and I am no longer locked into a contract. Previously with my contract I was never sure on what my bill was going to be because of all sorts of additions. With Tracfone I buy my minutes and I know that that is what it is going to cost me - there are no hidden costs
